It's for real but there are many packages in the market that are useless. I threw away 2 types I bought from ebay. For me, at present it serves me well. I use it when I'm traveling or when I'm in my study doing some work on the pc. I watch Fox news almost everyday. HBO is not my favourite so at present I don't see it much. I tend to go for business news and some sports. Also foreign programs are good.

The package I use is Elite but there are other packages under review in this site.
References :
http://www.satellite-tv-review.info/

don't bother paying for that service as it is basically a compilation of several services. Its not what it seems.

Get TVU Player or ant tv (both free last i checked) and toy around with those. If you like them search for similar services cause there are many out there that work off of p2p feeds.
References :
http://www.tvunetworks.com/

Satellite is a good thing on tv's and pc's only if you have nothing blocking the signal which is why they don't offer it to homes where I live.

They do for high rise apartment buildings and hotels because they are high enough to not have high buildings blocking the signals.

I have been told it does bring in any channel that has a signal going over your area, so, how many you receive would probably depend on where you are just like a satellite dish.
References :
I tried about 4 different products and gave up. Most of them have really crappy quality and very poor selection of channels. If they give you HBO, it's more than likely not english. Over 75% of channels are world channels from other countries and the ones from the US are sometimes not even live. They're all just free internet streams of video coming from various websites. Each program has a different interface, but they all gather video from the same place. There are already free sites that do the same thing without a 3rd party program. You view it in Media Player, but like I said, terrible channel choice, bad quality, mostly non-english non-american.
